Clash of the Patterns

Oh hey, is it already time for Everybody, Everywear again? This month's installment is print mixing. I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the subject [see my many examples here, here, here, here, and my favorite here!] Today's version includes a chocolate pinstriped blazer, a sheer floral blouse, and a polka dotted dress. The key to pattern mixing is a common thread. Color is the great binder, but sometimes it's the pattern itself [stripes on stripes, etc]. It's really quite a lot of fun!

I feel like I'm channeling a little bit of fall here. I know, it's still August. But all the fall runway stuff is everywhere, September issue magazines are coming out, back to school shows all the cute layering ideas... I can't help it! So this sheer blouse I'm declaring one of my Autumn Transition Pieces. I'm going to make it work for the crazy Bay Area weather we have for the next few months: some days overcast, foggy and chilly, other days hot and sunny for ages. As much as I love summer, I get really excited for fall layering, it makes pattern mixing that much more fun!
